New revenue default list: is tax evasion a crime ?

    Revenue publishes defaulters list

    27 June 2006 20:19
The Revenue Commissioners has published its quarterly tax defaulters list, which includes the largest-ever settlement made in the history of the State.

There were 150 names published who paid up a total of €55.5 million.
It is clear that some people in this country are systematically & deviously evading tax.

Tax evasion is a crime in name, very rarely if ever prosecuted. Why not ?

    Absolute disgrace.

The one thing I'll give the Yanks, is that if these guys owed the IRS money like they do here, they'd be spending time in a pair of orange pyjamas, enjoying Bubba's company.

Too many Irish people are all to quick to say 'arra fair play' to someone who cheats the system out of millions in tax revenue, but at the same time they get all oiled up and righteous about housing for single mothers or asylum seekers.

This is why Charles Haughey had a state funeral.

Because tax evasion is an offence against the bureaucracy, and is therefore not a crime in the historical or "natural" sense.

Given that he Govt. sopends money in a disgraceful way evasion is a moral duty whatever about its legal standing.

Pay tax if you want to subsidise the creation of an underclass.
