This tragic news has ruined my weekend. Life will never be the same again.

I need to look for an image that captures the phrase "tone deaf". Poor chaps, losing those days.
Global economic recession, Ireland in a worse state than most and a Union will kick up a fuss because allowances which may have made sense in the past but no longer do might be removed.
Give me a break.
Now they need to provide for:
- statutory redundancy for staff not needed.
- re-deploy accross the public sector.
- sacking the lazy, incompetent, abusers of sick pay and those constantly on the internet.
- adverstising every vacant post to 20% lower than the previous increment provided (open positions to non-public servants)
If the banks are out for a bail,
and Lenny's efforts end up as a fail,
when the Somer does come,
to the Country they'll run,
And leave a Fine mess for the Gael.

You see, and listen carefully, it's because of all the resistence to such changes that have you now in the crosshairs. You are your own worst enemy. I'm not trying to civil service bash here just for the sake of it but rather trying to help you see sense.
Please explain to me why you think you are entitled to banking time? Just so everyone here knows what that is,
Banking Time: half an our to an hour (cant remember which) that civil servants received when they were paid by cheque. This time was required in order to lodge wages into bank accounts. For many years now, civil servants have been paid electronically, but they still get the banking time. It is their "entitlement".
Noiw Silvio, defend your "entitlement" to banking time please, I'm really interested in this.
Yes, they are in your terms and conditions but they relate to a time when Civil Servants were allowed travel home at Easter and Christmas. Given the decentralisation in the civil service and motorways, they are now not needed and essentially just two days extra leave. Bank time is the same, most people are paid by electronic means and there is no need to give them time credits to do so.
If civil servants want to be taken seriously about reform then we must be prepared to concede on these issues, only then can we move forward credibly on our own agenda
Why are their expenses unvouched?
If it costs €70 to stay in a travellodge - okay, expense it, but why are they allowed claim about €110 (although I think has now been reduced) and pocket the difference, or worse, stay at a friends.
I have a friend who was at a regional office, and that office was closer to his home but was over 20 miles or so, from Head office, so he got various tax free allowances for going there, even though it was closer to his home.
Nuts, crack down on this waste, the public sector are taking us for a ride.
