I would say the only positives to take is this spend drift government is nearly flat on last years ridiculous expenditure amount when you take out the €3bn used for the recapitalisation. Unfortunately as people know that massive cuts are needed on spending on last years figure and they are not making much progress on this (even allowing for extra social welfare payments). Any leftie should analyse these figres and realise that a 5-10% decrease is needed on all types of social welfare payments or else we are just borrowing money to pay for them.

On the tax side the income tax increase have had the desired effect and VAT is making a bit of a recovery from April.

Other than that the whole figures are a complete mess and just us how badly FF have messed their figures up over the last few years. €30bn tax versus €60bn expenditure. Imagine running your home like that!

Oh yeah and its nice to see the farmers are still well looked after before they got their €700m EU money so far this year. The only department up on last year (bar social) and at 60% at that mind. Disgrace.

VAT is paid every two months so as may is a vat month it would have to be up.

Honest question. Can you explain this because I cannot see the corner you speak of?

Ireland is the second most unequal country in the developed world. I dont think we should be talking about cutting the dole when there's plenty of money in the hands of the rich.

Governments make decisions on tax all the time, maybe they should start taxing the rich for a change.

I'll say it again, we're the second most unequal country in the developed world, that's the issue people should be talking about, not thinking about where cuts can be made to the poor.

FFS, we're giving around €7.5 billion to Anglo Irish alone, and they are not fundamental to the survival of the economy, at all, and propping them up makes us look like idiots all around the world.

The bottom is at least 18 months away.
There is no hope of any recovery in output until 2011.
There is no hope of emplyment increasing until 2012.

Revenue figures are dire and getting direr. But spending cuts finally seem to be happening - except for s/w and rural s/w (or agriculture and food). Once the inconvenience of the petty elections is over, the government can turn an bord snip into slash across the board. 2009 will be crap and getting crapper but late 2010 should have scope for an uplift. Won't it?
If the banks are out for a bail,
and Lenny's efforts end up as a fail,
    when the Somer does come,
    to the Country they'll run,
And leave a Fine mess for the Gael.

Endinf the one Party (FF) state:
