Cowen hints at safeguarding public sector

Taoiseach Brian Cowen has signalled no job cuts in the public service will occur if a deal can be done on costs elsewhere, according to a letter sent to union members this weekend.
The leader of one of the main social partners, Peter McLoone, general secretary of the trade union Impact, has written to his members informing them that the Taoiseach has not abandoned the idea of guaranteeing public service staffing levels.

I am wondering what is meant by "if a deal can be done on costs elsewhere"? Cowen does not want to take on the unions and the public sector. It stands to reason then that there will be more hardship on the ordinary man in this country.

I think that taxpayers will continue to pay high salaries for public sector, but public sector will do nothing because they will not have money to do anything.

May be it is time for ordinary people to unite against corrupted FF and greedy PS unions?

Exactly: its a proposal for salaries and no services. Close the offices down and send them home on full pay. Inspired.

The Brians know that redundancy of public sector workers would mean huge redundancy payments followed by payment of benefits as none of them would get alternative employment.
Lower paid public sectors with families might actually cost more, factoring in medical cards.

Fianna Fail has a special relationship with the public sector. It pays out and expects to get a high proportion of their votes.

If left in Government they would continue to borrow until the credit runs out in order to maintain this relationship.

Which should be sometime around the end of the summer.

Cowen needs to be challenged by every man woman and child that he encounters

The Republic of Ireland is at this very moment trying to raise €25 Billion on the markets

This €25 Billion is purely for CURRENT expenditure for 2009 !

Next year the sum required could hit €35 Billion

Whatever chance he has of getting the €25 Billion this year, there is NO chance of raising funds next year.

It is an act of Treason by Mr Cowen to continue as he does.

He must make cuts now or he must GO.

(and these figures are exclusive of NAMA and the Bank Guarantees)

the stupid guttless cnut that is cowen needs to understand that just like with spoilt kids , you get no thanks for appeasing the public sector , even after though they are being spared the recession , they still speak of strikes and such action , either this man is completley brain dead or his cynicism of trying to hold on to a section of voters knows no bounds

My take home pay is 15% down on the end of last year and I'm apparently a civil servant being spared the recession??!! Yes we still have our jobs. Yes we know we all have to share the burden. That does not in any way justify the demonisation of the public service.

i dont consider 15 % to be in anyway substantial considering the average public servant earns 40% more than thier private sector counterpart , especially at the lower levels

    ps

the levy was not a pay cut

presently im out of a job and helping by brother run his dairy farm , his income is down 50% on last year and hes getting the same price for milk that his dad did in 1983

It is an act of Treason by Biffo to continue as he does.
Please God let there be some trials for all these fools in the coming years, if we can put the country back together.

I hope every member in FF spends the rest of their lives alienated from their communities, hate figures , this is the lest they deserve.

They are a disgrace to the memory of everyone who suffered for Irish freedom through our history.

    Jail these traitors.

Hang about - it was the Irish public that was calling for spend, spend, spend - don't they have some share of the blame?
