What jobs will survive the recession? 80% or so might.

With high unemployment occurring now and getting worse, what jobs do you think will survive the recession?

I have a few suggestions, but I may be way off mark here

Hospital, medical and ancillary ( not so much admin)
    Pharma
Intel and other FDIs for the moment anyway
    Gardai
Banks (yes yes, I know, but they are needed)
    Transport
    Food production and processing
    Drinks
    Car repair/NCT
    Social Welfare offices
    Undertakers

Anyone any others, or know of those in jeopardy? (we might need to go there soon too)

There is not a job available for a Solicitor in the country, practically. Also the bar (barristers) is over subscribed with the Bar Council using the Inns (Kings Inns - school for tyro barristers) as a cash cow and allowing hundreds to qualify every year knowing there is ABSOLUTELY no work or prospect of it.

IT, programmers and software engineers should weather the storm well.

I think it's wrong to associate the upturn in vocations with the downturn in the economy. Huge effort has been injected into vocations in recent years, with this year being the year of the vocation.

Now there's some good news. A glut of solicitors and barristers may be just what is needed to introduce a little competition into the legal 'industry'.

The cost of going to court may become affordable for the ordinary citizes

Its hard to say, plenty of work for us, but getting paid for it is a nightmare. Would be better off on the dole...

I think you may have missed it. Hasn't it just ended?
