The cost of bad advice: €10m paid on the banks and NAMA

Lenihan paid ?10m for advice on bank crisis

of course, it being public money there is no confirmation given by Dept of Finance as to whom it is paid....but they are not denying it was to Merrill Lynch and Peter Bacon.
I hope they got a receipt so they can get our money back when the advice turns out to be a crock...

How much would it have cost to have gotten the finance and econ professors in a room? Nothing, as they are all already on the university payrolls......

Lenihan had one woman from Merril Lynch, based in London, part time, on this.

well, i suspect that that one parttime woman (yes, I know...) was waaaayyyy overpaid and underqualified. How much would asking the advice of Whelan, Honohan, Lucey, Lane and Kelly have cost? Feck all, a few sandwiches. throw in McWilliams and you may have to go extra for a few foil covered bikkies. Would they have come up with as crap a solution? Probably not as crap at least. 10m euro......a lot done, more to do indeed

I'd be pretty sure the likes of McWilliams would give advice for free.

10 million is peanuts. We have to cut costs by 20bn. Thats 20,000,000,000. I dont think 10,000,000 is even going to register. Cop on to yourselves and focus on the big issues.

10m is small. But the cost of the advice the 10m gave us.....that aint small. And, why pay 10m when advice was available FREE.....why? what was the point of it?
