Richard Bruton: Ireland's budgetary system not fit for a Corner Shop

He's on RTE lunchtime show now...

I thought the above is a good quote.
“A healthy social life is found only, when in the mirror of each soul the whole community finds its reflection, and when in the whole community the virtue of each one is living”

A good quote if somewhat restrained.

A champion of the people emerges with the age-old and appealing promise of "something for nothing" - to be financed through every-increasing taxes. Supply and demand are thrown out of gear - the overhead goes up; the effective use of human energy goes down; the standard of living is lowered because money cannot buy wealth that is not produced.

Cosgrave and Cumann na nGael tried to run the state according to corner shop rules, but that's not how you run a state. Mind you, you dont run it like kleptomaniac in a casino either.

Some corner shops have sophisticated inventory controls and accounting systems!

Richard was his normal self and wasn't making any points I've not heard already over the last four years. RTE on the other hand seem to be trying to highlight the state of the economy with the structuring and layout of the programme. Listening to the whole structure so far I can't see how a listener won't be put off the current Government's lack of management. I think that the quote asks questions of not just the Government but of the Department of Finance. Where are the brightest and smartest who joined in the 80's and should at this stage be in the upper echelons of policy making.....

As has being pointed out before, the Department of Finance only has three qualified economists. Even that they have no hand's on experience of business.

Richard Burton is by far the best possible Minister for Finance that we have to hand imo

That has to be a joke, the dept of finance has only three economists, is this counting Alan Ahern? So for the last 10years we have been depending on a Mater Hospital penpusher and a jimmyjack half qualified solicitor for Offaly to organize this countries finances,no wonder were shagged.
