    Most Qualified

    OJK, my 2 cents.

Just because he is the most qualified out of a bunch of idiots, doesn't mean he's qualified. Just because you're elected doen't mean you're qualified.

There is a major problem in this country with the way ministers are positioned. I think it's a bag of ********************e really.

Finance minister should have SOME practical experience in finance and economics.

Minister for Technology should have SOME practical experience in the area of technology and emerging technology.

The fact that that is NOT how it is, is not an excuse for how messed up our (or any other) political system operates.

This isn't a discussion on whether he is qualified BY OUR CURRENT STANDARDS, but on whether he is qualified at all.

NAY. Nay I say! Give me a scientist and dispense with this political crap!

We need someone who is competent, not someone who can talk about being competent!

While I don't agree with his party or political background, having met Conor a few times in work I can say he's a decent enough chap(much more so than a certain education spokesman from a rival party),he did some good work in relation to highlighting developmental issues Sierra Leone and deserves respect for that.

Anyone who would publish that conversation as evidence that the respondent doesn't know anything about technology is a complete chancer.

There are lots of journalists out there who think that knowledge about technology amounts to being able to make a blog post and switch on their kid's X-Box.

This guy seems to fit that bill.

And for what its worth, it would be an afront to democracy to require that Ministers have minimal qualifications. There are lots of candidates out there who have experience in technology; if the electorate want these people at the helm of Government, they'll let us know.

nope lenihan was trying to be a smartarse, trying to prove over this minor point that he knew wikipedia's reputation, that he's hip and kool and internet savvy but the information was true so no need to question it.

Maybe he was trying to be a smart arse but that doesn't explain the repeated response from the technology expert that he couldn't just have edited the wikipedia entry.

that isn't clear, maybe he was trying to make the same point i am, he edited out that part of the conversation because it was irrelevant. again what was said about him on wikipedia was true, . having a go at it shows disdain for tech, not an understanding of it. wikipedia is not a source, the sources are a the bottom of the page , wikipedia is an encyclopaedia.

im more concerned about the minister then the journalist aren't you

did he work in some sort of business position esat?

Lenihan's comments are about as menacing as saying "I'm on first name terms with Sarah Carey (who I believe - according to gossip in Meath - will run for TCD Senator if Bacik gets elected in Dublin Central)"
