Medical Insurance for all? Is it true or a rumour?

Ok, this is thirds hand news, And I dont know if its news, or gossip.

But Ive heard from a freinds that the Government are going to introduce a new Medical Insurance levy for everyone excluding the under 16 and pensioners.

Everone else including those on welfare will have deductions made from their income to pay for medical insurance.

Like I say, im not sure if this true but if it is I think it could be a good idea if we actually get Private medical treatement.

But if it is true, no doubt like everything FF do its just another Tax.

    UPDATE

It was talked about on Mid West Radio

Because when the Insurance company find a way of withdrawing cover or you are no longer able to afford that cover, then you may be glad to have a public system to fall back on - bad n all as it is!. In my view, we should be aiming for a private quality, universal system, funded by a premium/levy/tax - call it what you will. Whether or not that system should be a public or a private system I donīt care - thatīs ideology.

So this is on top of the health levy already levied...

VHI was always a defacto health levy anyway, paid voluntarily for bugger all benefit.

Sounds more like the new FG proposal.
