Lenihan to tour Europe:"amazing that no riots here":will it restore our reputation ?

Brian Lenihan is touring Europe with the aim of restoring our fiscal reputation - will it work ?

Apparently the sell line is that isn't amazing that we've avoided riots...

Irish Times Friday, April 24, 2009: Lenihan must convince the markets

Brian Lenihan’s tour of European financial capitals next month is vitally important, writes ARTHUR BEESLEY

BRIAN LENIHAN’S latest attempt to pacify the public finances found a measure of praise yesterday from the most unlikely of sources, the editorial column of the Daily Telegraph.

Irish Times Monday, April 27, 2009: Europe 'amazed' at steps taken in budget - Lenihan

MINISTER FOR Finance Brian Lenihan has said the recent budgetary steps taken in imposing the pensions levy and raising taxes had impressed and “amazed” other European countries.

Speaking at the Irish League of Credit Unions conference in Killarney on Saturday, Mr Lenihan said other European governments would not have been able to impose the kind of pain the Government had.

But for how much longer Brian? You need the Croppies to lie down for years - not months.

We like to think we're a rebellious and healthily disrespectful people. We're not. We're one of the most docile, easily conned, pliable people in the entire world. We'll buy any old sh1te from any old conman, so long as we are either being patronised like children or else we think there's a short-term buck in it for us. We are mostly the heirs of those who hid under their beds or openly collaborated with the British, not the tiny minority who actually fought them. The self-congratulation is decades past its sell-by date.

That's why there are no riots.

We're the heirs of people who held on and dug in when it was more important to protect your family than get your head taken off by a bunch of murderous inbreeds who placed more value on their horse than on human life, just like every people that has ever suffered under those conditions for any length of time. And lest we forget, there is no Union Jack flying over most of the country right now, and the people that made that happen are our heritage.

There are no riots because there would be no point. Would you riot in the name of FG, no harm to them? You've been living in blighty too long.
