The queue for shop assistant positions

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cf31q4TC790]YouTube - Irish Recession 2009[/ame]

I came across this on youtube.

A queue around the block for sales assistant positions in Dublin.

Does anyone else notice something about the queue?

I could spot very few Irish people here with well over 90% being non Irish.

What the hell is going on here?

Are these people fresh arrivals in this country or what? How can we expect to reduce the dole queues when thousands of migrants keep entering the country on a monthly basis.

I really dispair that we will ever reduce unemployment in Ireland when I see queues like this.

Our migration policy is a disaster.

I saw it this evening and wondered what they were all queing for. There are plenty of Irish people on the dole so I don't think your post is totally valid. A better question might be "why weren't the irish in the queue ?"

Frightening stuff...it was on the 9pm news actually, which also included a rocket from the IMF who are suggesting we are going to have to pay about 27 billion to sort out our knackered banks....not the 7 billion our so called puppets in Leinster House are suggesting. Its very hard to talk positive about this country as we slide more and more into fiscal swamp...not sure if the real message has hit the people...seems we are all gonna just sit and watch....no incentives to actually lead our way out of this mess...sad and bad times for all I am afraid to say...

Over 2,000 line up for 3 londis jobs.

    YouTube - Irish Recession 2009

Look at the lineup, how come there are so many people that look like there from Pakistan or India, there not part of the E.U so how come there are so many of them lining up for jobs in Dublin and who gave them permits to work in Ireland? This is nothing but a joke our Immigration system here in Ireland is a complete joke, i thought we only gave permits to people outside the E.U if Irish employers couldnt find the workers here, we have Hundreds of thousands of Irish unemployed yet we have long lines of non E.U workers looking for work, how is this happening?

    With respect, that's irrelevant.

The relevant issue is we have hundreds of thousands of Irish people out of work, receiving dole, facing house repossession and cannot find a job.

And here you have 100 jobs and 90% of applicants are non Irish. The remaining Irish taxpayers will have to fund the welfare payments of the unemployed and with each passing budget we can expect increased levies and taxation to pay this welfare bill and we can expect more Irish people including many who paid taxes all their lives to go on the dole. And with the increasing welfare bill, we will have to keep increasing our national borrowing making things worse and worse.

The point is we have no control over the numbers of immigrants entering the country and most new jobs are being filled by non Irish and many from outside the EU as this queue demonstrated.

It's an absolute fiasco of an immigration policy and a disgrace.

Holy f*ck. I've heard about queues like this, for equally crappy jobs, but it only hits home when you see something like this.

Cowen et al, take a bow.

As an aside however, I was in a shop yesterday in Athlone and a young Irish girl came in looking for a job. The owner, a man of Indian/Pakistani race took the girls details etc. and said he would see what he could do. My own daughter also works part-time in a Chinese restarant at week-ends and gets paid a wage that keeps her going over the week. The immigrants that came to this country did and do contribute to this economy. And not all immigrants are on a scam.

Oh, did you just add that "migration" bit when you edited your post?

The fact is if people are legally able to work in Ireland, or Londis, then there should be no problem with them queuing for hours to have an interview.

WOuld you have a problem with legal Irish immigrants, in countries like the US or Australia, being discriminated against?

Everyone is in a tough situation and everyone is just trying to get by.
