VECs are taking pension levy from staff who dont have a pension

How the hell can this be?

It's been confirmed that the 'pension' levy - justified high up and low down as being a totally reasonable expectation that staff who benefit from the public sector pension scheme should contribute more. It was emphatically denied that the levy was a tax or a pay cut - or anything other than a levy on the pension itself.

Now we find that all staff in the teaching sector at least - must contribute the pension levy whether they are receiving or contributing to a pension or not. This must come as a double blow to the many part-time, hourly paid teaching staff who are illegally employed by VECs on contracts which do not give them basic employees rights including sick pay, holiday entitlement and pensions. You also have to ask where will their contribution to the pension levy go if they have no pension? Where is their money going?

Is the whole thing another lorry-load of government distortion and obfuscation?

Yeah, I have a friend who was hired on a temp three month contract to work in a city dole office, to try to cope with the additional applicants, and he is paying the levy leaving him with take home pay of a massive €320.

If he was on the dole and getting rent allowance he would come out with more money.

But at least bertie gets to keep his 120k per annum pension as well as his 100k pa salary and his lifelong car and driver. These are the important things to focus on

To be honest I no longer believe in ANY form of insurance. I'm going to cancel all my insurance policies because these bastards are simply creaming money off everyone's salaries and in all probability there will be none to pay out in the event of fire, theft, death, redundancy or whatever. Will they even pay out on the pensions themselves I wonder? Insurance of all sorts was ever a bloody racket. Even health insurance begins to seem pointless after Harney's blood sucking activities on behalf of her American friends. F** B*****

Reading the news does you no good these days.

I am generally quite critical of teachers gold plated remuneration package ..... but non permanent teachers are treated like dirt .... not very fair at all.

As for the ''pension'' levy ..... Its quite clear that this has NOTHING ! to do with pensions and is simply a pay reduction. . .. The word '' pension '' was simply included because the current government (& their advisors) are spineless & incompetent.

Most insurances are indeed a waste of money and are merely a way to tag on more profits from Loans.

Anyone with a family though , , , should be very careful about canceling life insurance or PHI (particularly if self employed).

As for Loan / credit card / redundancy insurance etc ..... all a wast of money IMO .....

Also .... If you are under 40 & paying health insurance, , , , you're probably not getting good value (there will aways be exceptions!) .... you are effectively subsidising the elderly. If you are 50 + .... or not generally in great health,,, you should hang on to the insurance.

Do you have a link to the above.
I believe that VEC tutors have no rights or entitlements at all.
Can you link to somewhere that says they are paying the pension levy without having pensions.

If that is the case, surely it's illegal.
Part time tutors get no sick pay, certified or uncertified.
They are not paid over Christmas, summer holidays ,Easter, mid-terms......

I know that the civil servants that employ them get paid throughout the year.

Ironically, without the VEC tutors, there would be NO VEC's teaching the adult learners, the youth groups, the traveler groups, the adult literacy programmes, the FETAC courses, the community groups ,.............

These tutors are kept on year after year as "part time tutors ".Yet the civil and public servants on the admin side are all full time and well paid!! It's a disgrace!!!Try the back to education programme without the tutors then see how that's workin for ya Guvnor! For many tutors this is their full time career with Zero rights or even basic entitlements. They will be told repeatedly that there are no contracts......Why?

It is my belief that the Gov is directing the unemployed to be trained & retrained by these cheep labour tutors. What a scam. They should tell the Gov to *- off if that is the case.

If this levy thing is true, then what a complete abuse. They have no right and no contracts. Many are waiting to get full time (best of luck!) jobs with third level institutions. They'd have been better off with degrees in religion and a hdip!

Do you mean that staff without pensions are paying the pension levy?

It's unbelievable. At least those with a pension will get something back.

Why have we not heard these people shouting " .......but we don't have a pension!"
