    Job losses where you are.

I'm wondering what everyone’s personal experience of the recession has been like.

Personally I work in a Dublin based IT firm. So far no one on my (the software) side of the company has been let go, but a good few people on the hardware side have gone and we've been told that there are limited resources for new hires even to replace people who leave on the software side.

There used to be a pretty high turn-over of people leaving for better things after a year or two, but no one has quit for the last 6 months. These days everyone’s attitude is “hang on to what you got, because there isn’t anything better.”

Have you seen others being laid-off in recent weeks?
    Have you been laid-off?
Have you had to lay-off employees?
How can you tell when a politician is lying?

Took 2 pay cuts last year and was laid off just before Christmas.

I was luck enough to get a job with a new company starting up. They are a division of a UK company that used to be represented in Ireland by my old employer. I managed to maintain my salary but the responsibilities are much higher as are the hours.

My old employer has laid off about 50% of the workforce with the remainder on reduced salaries and revised conditions. They are hoping that they will be able to survive on existing business but if another customer goes then......

My current employer had planned on hiring 10 people but we stopped at 3 and 2 part time. On the plus side we did get a decent lease with favourable rent. Utilities and rates are hurting us but there is nothing we can do about that.

In the area since we set up 6 companies have gone with around 3 to 400 people loosing their jobs. I don't know how many others have cut back as you only notice when they close up.
