??? Did the electorate want the prevailing standard of bank regulation? Did they demand that tax breaks favour commercial property investment?

I suppose it also helped the bollocks that some of the main drivers of the property bubble consensus were also paying the bills of our country's main political party. That must have ensured a certain treatment, regardless of what the electorate were assumed to want.
