Apologies in advance for the poor quality of the video and audio towards the end of Part 6. Unfortunately problems developed with the camera and I'll have to get a cleaning tape today but you can still make out almost everything he's saying. Once again sorry about the poor quality towards the end of the video.

Great stuff and an excellent turnout.

    I was at it myself.

Thanks for this post. I enjoyed this debate. I recently lost my job. I am thinking of doing a degree in Social Sciences because I never want to work for a 'for profit' company again. Now that I am unemployed I would like to pursue finding a job working for a not for profit organisation. I don't know yet what not for profit organisation I want to work for yet but hope to find out after doing the course. Can anybody tell me if there is any way of doing a degree through the social welfare? Nobody from the social welfare will ring me back but from my web searches I think I can do VEC courses for free but I already have the equivalent to one of these so I don't know if I should do one of these.

I have looked into doing it in DBS but they didn't know if there was any funding available and the social won't tell me so any help with this would be really appreciated.

Unfortunately you're a bit late for the CAO for University and IT courses in 09 / 10. You should check the PLC option through the city of Dublin VEC website (If that's your local area). You are entitled to Back to Education Allowance, which is the same as the dole, and a local authority grant so it's a good option if you're unemployed. Might be a good idea to contact your local Citizens Information Centre.

If you are over 23 and thus applying as a mature student, you apply directly to 3rd level institutions, bypassing the CAO. Not too late to do that for 09/10
