You say farmers get very little out of the government, in fact, on average, farmers get two thirds of their income in hand outs from the taxpayer. Certainly, you are right; there is nothing like being able to walk around in wide open fields and breadt the fresh air. So why do you think the urban workers should compensate you for that luxury? It wouldnt be so bad if farmers were in the least grateful, but I know from hearing many conversations since I first learned to speak, that Irish farmers regard the urban working class with even more contempt and hatred than the do the travelers. If the urban worker could be a fly on the wall for even one day, I can assure you you wouldnt be getting any more hand outs.

As you seem to be an expert on the subject what handouts do pig farmers get from the taxpayer?

What are you calling "pig farming?" Keeping thousands of pigs in massive hangers? This is not farming at all, but industrial production.

If you read a copy of the Constitution, I think you will find that Irish land has already been nationalised. Maybe not in the strict sense of what you mean by your thread, but it is true, all land in Ireland is vested in the authority of the State. If the Govt wished to take over your land at any time, they could quite easily do it.

So Im saying its well past time to do it - or do we have to go through yet another property boom and bust cycle before the penny finally drops?

Well pig farming is the term used for it. They produce a food commodity in it's first stage of production. And you didn't answer my question, what handouts do they get?

Ireland is only 4% urbanised, there is no reason why eveyone shouldnt have a house.

Its not stealing to take whats rightfully yours, and the land of Ireland belongs to the whole people of Ireland - not to a tiny pampered minority (many of whom got it by grabbing after the 1840s genocide.)

How about you pay your fair share of inheritance tax so land can be recycled fairly.

Em, how did they get it after the 1840's genocide when the landed gentry of our "great neighbour" still owned the land? Did you ever hear of the Land Comission? I think I remember hearing that they divided the land up among the "Irish People" back in the mid 20th centuary.

My father and grandfather had to pay for their land.

Taking something that someone else has paid for is called stealing.
