Just heard a drama bomb at work. 20% redundancies and 10% ish pay cuts accross the board. Approx 1000+ people. I'll update if I get real news.
I'm only a lowly contractor so I'll be out pretty sharpish.

1000 people being let go or getting reduction or is that the overall amount that your percentage figures relate to?
That rumour has been around for sometime now.
Apologies that will be approx 1000 redundancies. Everyone is getting a pay cut of some description. There all gettting letters asking to accept a voluntary pay cut but there is some confusion in-house with conflictimg emails going about.
Most of the people in here with a commercial brain are not shocked at all but not everyone has a commercial brainapparently the news went along the lines of we cut or the banks come in as we are proper fuc*ed.
Babcock and Brown are goosed.
But they landed the debt on Eircom.
3 billion I think.
The intrest has been rolled a few times as well.
No one will touch eircom with a long pole.
What will happen to land lines in the longer term?
Its only a chat, we ain't the world council.
In 2000 the Women's Institute in Britain gave Tony Blair the slow hand clap to demonstrate their contempt.
It was dignified, restrained and effective.Doesn't Bertie deserve the same scorn. No shouting, no abuse, no agression just a relentless slow clap whenever he speaks in public would be enough to end that man's presidential fantasy.

tough news but hardly a surprise its been a badly run, asset stripped, over staffed, terrible products and pricing for a long time
Enda Kenny on FF government: “We’re in this mess, not because Fianna Fáil policies have failed, but because they have succeeded.”
actually no it started with a poorly planned and managed sell off of a state asset without protecting the national interest, the public service remit that eircom have is only for a phone line to each house, other than that they have no obligations the fact that the government of the time allowed it to be privatised in such a bad way is not the fault of O'Reilly or any of the other private sector owners who followed they were just in business to make as much with as little a cost base as they could, poor regulation and poor oversite that followed only made matters worse.
I blame the government, comreg (farcial lot of tossers) and to a lesser extent the unions who were blinded by the ESOT dividend and their short term greed for the mess that eircom is in.....
