WTF - 500 queue for food parcels in Dublin

What is going on? Have we allready come to this? Apparently a selection of newspapers as shown on Vinnie Browne tonight headline an article depicting 500 people queuing for food parcels outside the Capuchins in Dublin. Anyone heard of this? Is it possible that people don't have food?

On the Late Debate on Radio 1 they were saying these are probably non-nationals. Given the social-welfare system, I would have thought that the Irish people are less likely to be in this position, bearing in mind the Habitual Residency Condition.

No-one is saying this isn't regretted, but I see similar stuff happening all over the Western world - having said that, Ireland at the very least used to pride itself on taking care of its less fortunate; this should get sorted fast (for both nationals and non-nationals together).

Whatever about the rating given us by the discredited S&P this will surely paint a pretty dire picture abroad.

Can the Capuchins be persuaded to cease facilitating the running down of Ireland's image internationally by begging non-nationals?
Surely they can find ways to assuage their charitable impulses in a manner that does not do damage to our economic image at this particularly critical time?

Does queuing for free food necessarily mean you are poor ?
I wonder if many drove home afterwards ?

Sorry for my new found right-wing attitude, but it springs from recent experiences.
