Minister suggests some people intentionally become unemployed

Last night on Prime time junior minister Billy Kelleher said that some will "move into unemployment intentionally" in order to avail of a back to work scheme. It's about 3.10secs into the clip of himself and Leo Varadkar.

I've heard some stuff before that indicated that some members of the government are out of touch with reality but this beats Banagher as they might say around the Taoiseach's neck of the woods.
Dan Sullivan. I was back but we still couldn't all have a vote.

Cowen and Coughlan seem to want to become unemployed intentionally.

They cant REALLY be that bad ?

    Kelleher was awful last night.

Not one single idea to put forward and started waffling about the Back to Education grant when the architect was asking about Enterprise grants.
I believe that children are the future

    Unless we stop them now.

I know people who have intentionally become unemployed to avail of the Back to Education Allowances. There was a 6 months waiting time. So sign on by March to get in for September. This occured for the both those going to 3rd level and those going to do the Leaving Cert in the VEC. I am personally aware of examples in both cases so it does happen. What the Minister was specificially dealing with last night was the Enterprise Allowance i.e. receive dole plus benefits for up to 2 years while setting yourself up as self employed.

He is talking tosh, when you are made redundant, you get a form from a company stating this. This form is then given to the social welfare. If you are fired, you are given a P45.

Welfare is a subsidy for unemployment. The more you pay, the more unemployed there will be. Very simple really.

I presume that they ask to be made redundant rather than getting themselves fired...

Yes, all those people who are in receipt of the dole made themselves unemployed!

Is this Fianna Fail's latest attempt at diverting blame?!

I have to admit that is bad form and extremley out of touch with the current situation on the dole queues.

    Back to Education?

Good luck to anyone trying that route!

They only take in a handful of Mature Students each year and then you have to compete with, Immigrants, youths who left school went to work and now want to return to education, and the only courses that offer large numbers of places are Social studies!

This whole Back to Work scheme is yet another con and the Uni`s dont give any preference to the unemployed because of Discrimination laws!
