Some years back it I said it to my mother who had been awaiting a hip replacement for over a year,she was in so much pain for so long.I suggested it to her,unfortunately she had been too conditioned by the "reefer madness" hysteria and refused.Ironically while she was in the hospital having the op. the "legal drugs" she was given for the pain ended up bursting an ulcer in her stomach and almost killed her,ending up having to have a blood transfusion.

I never quite get this idea of legalising drugs solving the problem. We have a huge illegal trade in cigarettes as it stands and given that criminals make alot of money on drugs it is unlikely that they are going to legitimise their operations. They will just undercut whatever price the State puts on drugs.
That is ignoring of course the social effects of many types of drugs and the obvious difficulty in how you get these drugs to Ireland if you did legalise them. If you legalised heroin in Ireland, how do you propose to get it from Afghanistan? Through Cherbourg? Give me a break.
