    Frankly, that's just ridiculous.

    Step 1: Change the Government
There are plenty of threads about how we got here. I'm trying to see if we can discuss solutions.

But lets accept your premise: Step 1: We sack all the TDs, all the Senators, the top four levels in the Civil Service, and we start with a clean sheet of paper.

Step 2: How do we address the fact that we have 2003 levels of income, and 2009 levels of expenditure?

I've already put forward proposals for this on many other threads too :

However, I still cannot see how anything can be solved without ousting Fianna Fail in particular. All that's happening is that they're applying sticking plasters and going into denial.

As can be seen in the US, there's a LOT to be said for a new mandate and an opportunity for a new Government (in our case) to lead the way forward.

I know a General Election might be messy and expensive, but I can see absolutely no evidence that the current administration has what it takes to get any of the necessary changes through. So, without making that change first, the rest is just talking nonsense really as all that will happen is Fianna Fail will hide from the truth, bale out the builders and attempt to re inflate the property market, remain in the pockets of the banks, pander to every whim of the civil/public service unions and other vested interests, and apply insane amounts of regressive indirect taxation. They are a one trick pony!

Enough of the partisan rhetoric already!

This thread starts at the point where we have gotten rid of the people - elected and unelected - who Govern us.

    We have a clean sheet.

How do we address the problem. Lets hear some suggestions.
