    That sounds just lovely and very intellectual but in both the examples above that patently isn't the case. If it were then there would be no surplus post Christmas to flog off in January and there would be hundreds of families trapped at home at Easter unable to fly to Spain. Yet I haven't seen or heard evidence of either.

    You've convinced me. The government is a much better alloactor of resources. Airline monopoly for all.

    Yes, but it's damn hard to do without a way to keep out potential competitors. That's when you get the government to raise tariffs, set prices, give licences, etc.
