Interesting, to say the least.

Does this mean they are deserting FF?
If engineers were wrong as often as economists, would anyone fly aeroplanes?
Buried at the bottom of page 6 of the ICTU prosposal, there's an interesting paragraph.
"The new ownership structure may provide opportunities for increased stakes by ESOTs in companies. It is not envisaged that neither employees nor ESOTs would seek any stake in the SHC."
Note the superfluous double negative in that last sentence. I wonder is that just the old Liberty Hall vernacular at work, or were they trying to obscure a grab for a slice of the proposed holding company.
In any case, I doubt the main motivation of the blueshirt proposal was to hand an increased ownership share to the employees.

I'm sure the fault is all mine, but I haven't a clue what that sentence means.
Nope, the fault is all mine.
There's me whining about double negatives in a post with missing words![]()
I've just corrected the original post, but the point was that I doubt the Fine Gael proposal was intended as a vehicle to increase the shareholding of the employees. So while there the proposals were superficially similar, one suspects the underpinning motivations were quite different.
Now that that's cleared up, isn't it interesting that FG have come close to the ICTU position, with the social partnership talks also due to resume ? There hasn't been too much other serious ideological debate about how we go from here and if you heard Mary Coughlan on the radio earlier today, you would come to the conclusion that the government aren't going to dazzle or inspire us with their leadership skills.
i'm sorry but can you please never use the words Mary Coughlan, government, leadership, skill;s or inspire on the one sentence again, the woman is the perfect example of the peter principal, is an utterly inept, bully, dynastic, gombeen, parish pump politician of the highest order
Enda Kenny on FF government: “We’re in this mess, not because Fianna Fáil policies have failed, but because they have succeeded.”
Expect more of the leftward shifting, by all parties I'd say. Well, at least towards the corporatist/interventionist version of left-wing policies.
In the economic climate that's in it, a lot of voters will be looking to the Mammy state to kiss them better. And all parties will cater to this sudden loss of individual ambition.
