Worst is over for job cuts as companies that needed to cut have predominantely done this, there will be more but not at same level. Funny how people abused Personnel Managers Body who suggested the worst for redundancies over by Easter.
I think 4th quarter of 2009 the recession will have bottomed out but think Q1 / Q2 2010 before growth.
CSO stats yesterday indicating that Imports decline by large rate but Exports decline by 1% year on year. That is reasonably positive.
I think we will bottom out at 2000/01 income levels both personally and nationally.
Its only a chat, we ain't the world council.
In 2000 the Women's Institute in Britain gave Tony Blair the slow hand clap to demonstrate their contempt.
It was dignified, restrained and effective.Doesn't Bertie deserve the same scorn. No shouting, no abuse, no agression just a relentless slow clap whenever he speaks in public would be enough to end that man's presidential fantasy.

18 months should see big improvements provided public finances are put in better shape (I hope)
Just sale-agreed a property at 2000-1 prices. On the plus side, there were no offers for a year and then 3 in a week. My income is back about 2-3 years so far, until April 7th... I think some people are starting to adjust to the new situation. But if the govt goes bankrupt the future is unfathomable.
3-4 years before we return to any sustained growth, even then it might be less than 1% growth for a long time. 40% of the worlds wealth has been destroyed in the last 9 months, the bad news just keeps coming and is getting worse.

The Irish economy will be in recession through 2009 and 2010 and will only emerge from recession in 2011 with a benign international environment, but there is no certainty of that.
Recovery will come long after talk of a quick rebound subsides. My personal opinion. I'm not in Ireland but talk in the media of a bottoming out of the property market shows that some people still haven't faced up to the reality of high costs, unsustainable and unproductive growth.
the recession may not last more than a few years but the heedy days of the 1990s will not return for a decade or more if ever.
I have lived through a few in different places, the pain here has not even started yet.
