€29 billion in taxpayers money supervised by only 4 accountants - FG

A staggering revalation today exposed by FG's Senator Paschal Donohoe. The Department of Social and Family Affairs employs only 4 accountants to oversee its massive budget.

Apologies - typo in the heading of the thread (should read 8)

The 4 refers to the Social/Family affairs dept. only

Is this really a bad thing? I mean these aren't decision makers, just janitors. Shouldn't we be happy the computers are doing all the work?

And yet the fact that a greater proportion of the poor smoke will be used as a argument not to increase taxes on smokers as their social welfare won't cover the cost.

I've often wondered just how much the department of social welfare bothers to calculate the cost of anything so that the allowances match the costs.
Dan Sullivan. I was back but we still couldn't all have a vote.

Is this the best FG can come up with?

This is roughly equivalent to a scenario whereby the entire Irish banking sector would have only 8 accountants in its payroll.

You would consider that to be a trifling matter, I take it?

I'd say that it's probably not equivalent at all. But if Paschal knows any different, then he should spell out exactly what the problem is. Otherwise, it's just sensational headline grabbing.

What is the issue here? How many accountants are required? When the word accountant is used, do they mean book keepers? This is a confusing post!

Hmm, requiring accountability for public spending...yes that is awful, un-Irish even.

I reckon we should continue given FF dominated state boards and quangos a blank cheque. Seems to have worked so far.

    The buck stops....not with FF.

Maybe you can tell me then, exactly what the problem is? How many accountants should the government have?
