Chavez must be doing something right judging by the amount of scorn and vitriol heaped upon him by the US.

No. If you are opposition you are banned from office. The country is heading down the toilet and will soon be bankrupt. People like you from the comfort of your armchair or dole office queue cheer this dictator on because of your immature anti-American, Anti-Western, Anti-Capitalist views which are stuck in a 70s time warp. I hope he stays because Venezuela is the poorest most corrupt utterly devastated country in Latin America (as it soon will be) then maybe people will see socialists for what they are.

The US doesn't give a hoot about Chavez. They know he'll wreck the place and do a better job of further discrediting the loony left. He's better than any CIA psy-op squad.

Yeah, that's why they continuously condemn him and the RW media attack him routinely.

They obviously are very worried about him.

First they ignore you then they ridicule you..... you know how it goes....

Spot on Merle. Its a pity we have the current shower of clowns with the nudge, nudge, wink, wink, old boy - I'll scratch my back mentality.

They do accountability in Venezuela which is something that the Zanu FF boyos could do.

Your comment belies your ignorance. The guy has been democratically elected and has gone through recalls before. Venezuela has made great strides in tacking poverty through its social programmes.

The right wing white elite that ran Venezuela for decades presided over one of the greatest inequalities of wealth in Latin America. Chavez who has a democratic mandate from his own people is enacting reforms to address that imbalance.

Have a look at this article and what it says about Venezuelan oil production...
    Hurricane Chávez - washingtonpost.com

Go to the International Press Institute and Human Rights Watch for in depth analysis on curtailment of freedom of speech, extra-judicial killings and torture. But its ok for some people because he is a socialist. Viva La Revolucion! As a latte-sipping middle class yankee hating westerner might say from the comfort of their living room in a democratic free market country.

    .
The country is soon to go bankrupt if oil stays as it is. He has imposed price controls seized goods and private property to try and shore up his popularity. He is elected because he controls the levers of power and has stifled dissent by controlling the media. Mind you looking at your avatar I suppose you agree with totalitarian dictatorships so I am not surprised.
