“I will ensure that ideas emerging through the screening by the Independent Advisory Council overseeing the initiative, will be fast-tracked to the Cabinet sub-committee on Economic Renewal for assessment and implementation, where appropriate.

    from the above blog:

............I believe that the internet can rescue us from a depression, through its networking and organisational properties but only if we exploit it to its fullest.............
I think someone needs to plug out the laptop for a while and take a walk out in the real world.

Im all for positive thinking - Im currently working/developing 3 ideas for starting my own business - all at differing stages of development - but Im fecked if Im going to hand them over to a PR Firm that is unashamedly running an astroturf campaignfor the Current Government.

The Internet community in Ireland are being especially supportive, offering free advertising positions and prominent editorial support on from the time that the website went live.

    Some ideas -

Renewable energy will be the next bubble so its important that we get a product onto the market to take advantage of it. Given our geography I think that we should look into tidal and wave power. There has been investment in this area already and it should be ramped up. The minister responsible should take "an active interest" in progress. Since it is heavy engineering it could be a good money spinner and employment creator. The breakthrough has not yet come so its still there for the taking.

We have to push the green food envelope. We have a perfect country for the organic market and our efforts in developing our farmers to choose "good conscience" farming practices should be redoubled. While many may say that this market will shrink there will always be a market for food that has a full flavour. Quality not quantity is the key here and while a recent incident dented our reputation it will recover given the right work. Quality control will be an important part of implementing this. We are already strong at this and we should play to this strength. This documentary, Our Daily Bread, presents the dystopian reality that is industrial food production. If this was more widely known then we could take advantage of the food culture that arises in reaction to it.

Tourism is going to become an important part of the economy again and we have to try and recapture what made the country so enchanting to visitors before the boom and binge. People who come here should be confident that it remains the safe, good natured and witty place it has always been. They should be content in knowing that we're still the real deal. Costs need to go down and our social fabric safeguarded. There has been a constriction in the tourist industry over the past decade into the large hotels and metropolitan areas and this has to be reversed.

A new procurement program should be introduced into the public sector to take advantage of the lower prices of the recession and get more bang for the buck. It will also encourage price discipline across the economy and increase our competitiveness. This is critical. We became too lax in purchasing and prices have risen too high across the board. If we have high consumer prices then wage levels have to reflect them. We have a small open economy and so can be more lean and agile than other economies if we put the right administrative and entrepreneurial skills behind it. Import/export and logistics were growth areas in the economy and should be reinforced.

The mortgage holding part of our society has to be relieved, that means discounting and extending repayment terms to lower monthly outgoings. There will be wage constriction and this should be offset now we have the banks by the proverbials. When one takes expert advice one expects the expert to be expert. There has to be a cost for the peculation of shareholders and customers.

Hearney closed down a social program that I think would be useful to revive. She stopped payments to staff in the voluntary sector. It was a bad decision at the time and probably an ideological one but now there is an incentive to bring it back as it will take heat off the public sector, keep people busy and promote initiative within local communities.

We should have natural gas being pumped soon and a much better price should be negotiated for it. If the previous minister of natural resources and Iar Taoiseach need to be prosecuted in order to invalidate the contract then so be it. This would generate revenues from royalties and give us a base for manufacturing industries by providing cheap energy. We should get the IFI fertiliser plant up and running again. This resource window has to be looked at seriously to see what can be squeezed out of it.

These may seem to be a land of the luvvies wish list but I think that these are growth areas and should at least be considered.

Is there anyone still taking this seriously? It's just read their latest batch of vetted "ideas" (Ideas: batch 10 | Ideas Campaign) and honestly, either they're taking the piss or just given up. Here's one:

My idea is the launch of a ‘National Spend or Buy Day’ to get the nation spending again. A monthly ‘National Spend or Buy Day’ would help inject money into local economies and increase exchequer VAT returns.

People would be asked to buy something that they wouldn’t normally buy day to day or make a purchase they have been putting off.

The amount of money a person spends is totally at their discretion, so it could be €5 or €5000, whatever the person/family can afford.

It looks more and more like an FF backed astroturf operation. Then there is the uncomfortable coincidence of FF hiring a US political internet strategist. And as for its board of luminaries - they are yesterday's people trying to get other peoples plans for a future they will not have.
