Nearly 5 weeks away... Typical ICTU acting in slow motion... Still its progress I suppose. Delighted to see the CPSU leadership weren't bullied into calling off out action this Thursday...

In the worst recession in 50 years, Begg the Banker decides its a good idea for all of us to take a day off. Absolutely nuts if you are working in the competitive private sector. On the other hand if you are "working" in the public sector, hey what does it matter.

I alse resent the ultimatum to the govt...negotiate or we walk. close enough to subversion in the current environment. Maybe the Appleby squad need to pay Dave a visit to see if he has any files on Anglo.

Are the Hospital Consultants members of ICTU?

Great and achieve what exactly?
The ICTU are totally devoid of the courage to tell their members that we all need to buckle down.
Union members know this as well.
Its only a chat, we ain't the world council.
In 2000 the Women's Institute in Britain gave Tony Blair the slow hand clap to demonstrate their contempt.
It was dignified, restrained and effective.Doesn't Bertie deserve the same scorn. No shouting, no abuse, no agression just a relentless slow clap whenever he speaks in public would be enough to end that man's presidential fantasy.

Present-day society across the globe is dominated by the capitalist system. Under capitalism, all goods and services are produced to be sold for a profit. The capitalist minority who monopolise the means of life, whether through private or state ownership, are not primarily concerned about satisfying human needs, but about selling commodities on the market at a profit. There would be no profit without the labour of the working class, for if we did not apply our mental and physical energies to nature there would be no wealth produced to sell. The production of all wealth results from workers’ effort, but we are paid a price for our working abilities which is less than the value of what we produce; it is this difference between the value of our labour power and the value of what we create which is surplus value, the source of profit. So, profit derives from the unpaid labour of the workers. The capitalist accumulates profit by a process of legalised robbery. It follows obviously enough that there is an inevitable antagonism of interests between the capitalists and the workers: they need to get as much as possible out of us and we need to minimise thenextent to which we are exploited. Capitalism creates unceasing class struggle between workers and capitalists; strikes are one expression of that struggle.

Oh ffs. I presume this means all unions in all sectors? The union sheep where I work will no doubt vote for it as we aren't getting the pay agreement increase. If I have to stay away from work fair enough, but they can fu*k right off if they think I'll be on any picket
