should existing PS pensioners contribute to the levy?

Some Senior (and not so) Public Sector pensioners have been cited on here as getting more in the pension now than they did while in employment.

There are lots of them scuttling out the door as we speak to get maximum benefit and no levy.

I think they should contribute something for the handsome pensions they are enjoying now, and for which they contributed little or nothing.

Isn't the whole reason for a levy instead of a pay cut that it doesn't affect any current pensioners.

It's a good argument for young people to go out and vote though!

    Leave pensioners alone.
A lot of them are of a generation that got screwed by high PAYE on low salaries in the 70´s and 80´s.
The time for this levy was at least 4 or five years ago. But the FF party had to wait until they ran the country into the ground before growing the balls to bring it in.

Ehhh... seen the budget deficit and the price of securing the banks lately, this generation will experience that (or worse if we go bankrupt instead).

of course they should pay. most ps pensioners are very well off and can well afford it.
lots of them with their 50% of final salary (inc full increments) pensions have almost as much money coming in as young workers but dont have the mortgage childcare , transport worries that they do.

Oh, I love the bitterness of it all. Hit PS workers, Hit PS pensioners, You forgot about taxing PS child benefit also. Lets have our own apartheid here. Instead of doing something about your plight, its easier to read the 'Sindo' and believe.
