Consultant Doctor pay is completely out of line with other European contries.
    Outrageous by any measure!
The general population should be made aware of this.
I recently saw an advertisement for three consultants in Limerick (UL) which will cost taxpayer €1,000,000 per annum for three people!
Its all part of the 'I'm worth it' mentality we see form tribunal barristers and so many across the so-called professional classes. These people , along with bankers and developers and other business people have ripped off the country for so long.
ICTU, IBEC, Law society, Bar Council represent no-one but themselves. Vested interest groups. The difference is that ICTU (or RTE anyway) seem to think that they represent the interests of society!
ICTU seem to mainly represent the public sector. How many public sector workers dont join unions? Its facilitated by their employer who even deducts the union subscription from their salary!!!

The salaries in Limerick have to be the same salary needed to attract the highest paid consultant in the entire Irish hospital system, given the HSE's incredibly stupid decision to award all consultants the same pay after the huge pay awards last year. See my discussion at the bottom of page 6 above about the economics of labour costs at the margin.

Yes, indeed. You make some very good points.
Are the consultants affiliated to ICTU?
