    Mixed opinions on pension levy

The Irish Times MRBI poll shows a split on attitudes to the pension levy with a balance of opinion against it. A plurality (47 per cent) say the levy was wrong while 41 per cent agree with it.

When asked about who was taking more pain, 39 per cent opted for the private sector, 29 per cent said the public sector and 24 per cent said the pain was being shared equally.

    RTE's website puts it best:
A new opinion poll shows that while a majority are opposed to the public service pension levy, a substantial majority agree with it.

I would love to knoe how given that there were 2,000 jobs lost in the private sector yesterday that the private sector is only taking 39% of the pain....... Thats 2,000 jobs in one day.......??????

I think that the real problem here is the majority are feeling the pain, whether private sector or public sector WHILE we have the likes of Brian Goggins speaking about his "DISCLOSED COMPENSATION IN THE ACCOUNTS AND RECORDS" being 2.9 million.

The rest of us get a pay packet!!

Me, in the public sector, are married to him in the private sector!!
    US calculating what
1.the 1% levy will cost us
2.what the pension levy will cost us
    3. the drop in early childcare allowance
    4. No bonus or pay increase for him
    5. the teachers voting for strike action(2 kids in exam yr)
    6.is his job safe
7.is my job do-able with the cuts down the line(I work VERY frontline and its getting harder and harder and its taking its toll)

I suppose my message is that you and me are actually in this together

    AND

we should be AGAINST those whose "DISCLOSED COMP...........

it wasn't the online poll, it was a proper 1,000 people in 43 constituencies margin of error 3% poll done by one of the big agencies - prob MRBI.

The workers are seeing the ploy to drive a wedge between public and private sector and are asking who benefits? Not the workers for sure. Certainly not the unemployed former-workers who will become increasingly dependent on public services and will not appreciate them being diminished. The resource teachers and free books scheme will be become increasingly important in a society who can no longer afford private assistance. And it wasn't benchmarking that bankrupted the country. Anyone except the willfully blind can see that.
Expect the proportion seeing through the spin to grow.
