Gormley leaps to the defence of Brian Lenihan: He is doing "a very good job"

Green Party leader John Gormley has mounted a strong defence of the Minister for Finance today amid intense criticism of his handling of the Anglo Irish Bank nationalisation.

Meanwhile, asked about the matter in Dublin this morning, Mr Gormley described calls for the resignation of his cabinet colleague as "absolute nonsense".

He said Mr Lenihan was doing "a very good job under exceptionally difficult circumstances".

There appears there is no hope of Green TD's pulling down the government. Mr. Gormley must have vey low standards if he thinks Lenihan is doing "a very good job".

Gormley is obviously paying no attention to the feedback he is getting from Green supporters (former?) if he can stand over this and the cutting of services to special needs children. Shame on him.

By no stretch of the imagination is Lenihan doing a 'very good job'.

He didn't read a 120 page report into Anglo, for gods sake.

Ive seen it referenced here before that he was a lazy lecturer in a previous life. I can now well imagine.

Has Gormley gone completely barking mad.

Does he want his party to follow Lenihan down the plughole.

Any rational politician must know that Lenihan is fatally damaged.

Supporting the Government and supporting Lenihan are now polar opposites and to support the Government Gormley must ditch Lenihan.

Keeping quiet on a "small" 7 billion transaction, or being incompetent enough not to notice the "small" 7 billion transaction.

Thats a very fine "good" job he's doing indeed. Some more of this "good" work and we won't be long getting out of this mess.

John is just thinking about the ministerial pension at this stage, another 6 months and it is in the bag.
