Sell depreciating assets and stock up on precious metals and collectibles (fine art, etc).
Im trying to sell the biggest depreciating asset I have-my house. But no one is interested, they probably have more sense than I had.

Also when ever you are out driving drive behind trucks whenever you can in 5th gear.
The truck will break the windforce and your car will use less fuel as there is less wind force.

If this makes you late for work, say you are lowering your carbon footprint.

Nostalgia indeed, tea bags reused three times and wearing the same two pairs of socks and two t-shirts you wore in bed to school as there was no oil for heating, scouring the beach for cockles and eating them raw, collecting the mussels for dinner after a swim. Cooking oil put back into the container and used until it soldified. Home made brown bread, growing spuds in the back garden. Collecting berries from the bramble. Binding up newspapers with an old clothes hanger wire to turn them into firelogs. Great craic!

Has anyone thought about putting management companies to good use and using them to buy staples on a wholesale basis, or forming community organisations for that purpose? Could save a mint on food and supplies, bulk negotiation and all that. You can do the same for a local garage, get a fleet discount card. Also a freezer is a good investment, for the same reason, we used to get a man calling around with a years worth of chicken and it was all wedged into the freezer in the back kitchen.

And what ever happened to the milkman?

well if were talking shopping i use play.com for pretty much all my DVD , video games and book needs.

literally half price and the godsend of the internet is you can get obscure stuff retailers dont bother backing.

also 7dayshop.com is great for memory cards and adaptors. i think theyre really set up for camera gear and the like but its saved me a fortune on the phone memory cards. got a 2gb one three years ago with an adaptor to plug it into the computer that was a big deal back then for 33 euro when vodafone were charging circa 100 euro for a 1gb one. theyre going for like 4 euro now but the postage is high so you'll end up forking out 13 euro and it depends on the exchange rate too.

i back up what others have said about packed lunches too. saves you an absolute fortune over the course of a week. i dont do it anymore as i love my food but if things are getting tight its much cheaper to buy a ham fillet in tescos, boil it, cut it up and make your own ham sandwiches for a week than to buy them in the shops or delis. if youve alot just keep out what you need and freeze the rest for later.

Another good one I heard on the Colbert Report (but is not a joke): if you are driving in a car with air conditioning and the car is too hot and stuffy, then if you are driving under 45mph you should lower the window, but if driving over 45mph keep the windows closed and switch on the air conditioning for maximum efficiency.

If your a smoker, get a cheap ryanair flight to anywhere in europe ( not UK ) and buy your smokes for half price, when I got to holland or belgium or spain I get a few months supply.

If you've any Polish mates here they can get em for cheap for ya also.
