You'd be surprised by the amount of Free to Air channels you can get with your SKY box after you have cancelled your sub.

I have a terrestrial ariel for the Irish channels and can get BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Kids Channels, News Channels and Film4 through the SKY box, which is more TV than I'll ever need. I can't think of anything that I've missed.

I'm perfectly happy to watch Premiership hightlights on the BBC, and they even had the SuperBowl this year. I'll also get the Masters, the Open, Wimbledon, etc etc entirely without advertising.

You don't need one. I have a satellite dish without Sky service. Get most available channels absolutely legally, absolutely free.

Most recently I get car bparts from the UK via e-bay. I have saved myself between half and two thirds the cost. Examples:

Radiator: Quoted 196.95 plus VAT for supply only = €240(ish). Got it from the UK (Viking Radiators) for £54 plus £20 delivery. Received in 4 days. I searched the car forum and it had a "How To" guide and I fitted it with my brother.
Since I bought it fairly recently I wanted to get the timing belt and water pump changed (not a new car). Got them almost half price in the UK. I cant remember the costs off hand.
When it went into the mechanics we realised the head and head gasket set needed replacement. New head set and bolts would have cost just over €180 (supply only) here. Got them in the UK (e-bay) for €62.
My wifes timing belt kit quoted €160 here. Got it for £55 on e-bay. Water pump here quoted €60, e-bay in the UK for £33.

Get my coffee in work for free. It's only freeze dried but its free. Tea bags are free in work.
Make home made soup for lunch.

For a long time now I shower with soap and not shower gel. I also shave with no foam before my shower. Any little knicks stop any amount of bleeding by the end of my shower....no, I cant explain that one either.
Shop up North from time to time.
I dont go to the pub much anymore. I drink at home, but not in my closet.
I complain when I think I'm being over charged.
Shop in TK max for shoes and other items.
Look out for Lidl and Aldi specials (Thursday specials).
Have learned DIY skills and tiled, coved, painted my own house. I also put down wooden floors myself and made some basic furniture (shelving units, cupboard under stairs etc) myself. I also built my own deck out the back garden. 2 decks really, joined by a bridge. Really chuffed with that one. Bloody hard work though. And I'm an office worker sitting on my backside.
We compost what we can and are now able to use our own compost for planting and bedding etc.

Oh yes, I got rid of Sky years ago. Bought terrestrial arial for €240. Paid for itself in a year, less. Only really watched terrestrial channels on the sky box anyway.

When the "on button" on our telly broke a few years back, we used blue tack to keep it in for a while (I dont think I'm painting a rosy picture of myself here am I? But we were broke at the time.).

The current crisis doesn't mean you should stop entertaining your kids.
When I was a kid in the 70s, my parents would take us on day trips at least once a week. No, not Mc Donalds or some bistro, but a drive in the car into the wilds. My mother would've prepared a picnic, / a few sandwiches, biscuits, and a flask of tea, and we'd eat al fresco weather permitting or in the car if need be.
Cost=maybe 10 euros today for petrol only.
We just have to adapt and use more imagination.
One good thing about todays climate is the lack of people looking down on others who are frugal.

I've no heating in my bedroom, and never had. A simple hot water bottle does the trick.
