    Biffo for Biffo

Simply can't believe the sniping and nitpicking responses from the 10% this morning in response to Brian Cowen's stirring presentation to the Dublin Chamber of Commerce last evening. Those of us who were there and experienced it could but admire the performance.
No, I'm not a Biffo acolyte....never voted for him......never met him (not even last night).......never previously liked him ...........but last night he struck a chord with the people in that room.

It was a rallying cry, for sure and struck home. He said the right thing, at the right time and in the right place.
Listen, lads, ye can either join the rowers in the boat or choose to swim behind it.....for most of us it's a no-brainer.

How much did you have to pay to be there?

We don't need to hear more words from Brian Cowen or anyone else, we need to see actions, his actions and he will be judged on his actions and his actions alone. He usually tries to bully the Irish people through his friends in the media into going along with his plans but now the people are standing up and being counted. If he can't turn this country around and stem the job losses soon, then he is for the scrapheap starting with the local elections.

He will be remembered as the minister for finance that created the mess.

A rallying cry? A diversionary tactic more like. Or to provide a true and accurate translation of his speech:

'stop shining the light on our inadequacies, we don't know what to do'.

The primary reason why the speech was remarkable was that he has been so insipid over the past 5 months. This should have been his tenth such speech - remember how we heard over and over about his legendary debating prowess? - maybe now he'll have the guts to do likewise in the Dáil or on TV. But seems to be a case of far too little, too late.

When he backs up his words with actions and "puts HIS shoulder to the wheel" and suffers the pain himself, I'll agree with you then and I'll gladly row in behind him. Heck, I'll even put my shoulder to that now famous wheel. Until then, I'll treat Cowen and his words and followers with contempt.
