It is a waste of time talking to these people and let them stick to their euro because there is a fortune to be made off their stupidness
Question is not whether or not gold will increase in € or $ value, possibly by a lot, over the next while. It probably will. It's whether or not it makes any sense as backing for currencies. Different question.

For all those giving favourable mention in the thread to Alan Greenspan, try his statements of last October Alan Greenspan - Google News. Poor bewildered chap can't understand how it (not he) went wrong. Irrational exculpation, you could call it.

He's a big fan of Ayn Rand, too.

Was a big fan, before he abandoned his youthful ideals and went to work for the government.

Central bankers are never to blame, are they? Here is the press release from the Zimbabwean Central Bank that shows where the market (not it) went wrong.

http://www.rbz.co.zw/pdfs/Press_Zse.pdf

"Between the 10th and the 20th of November,
2008, total fraudulent cheques we intercepted in
the clearing system had risen to $60 hexillion
($60,000,000,000,000,000,000,000).

The tragic reality is that this $60 hexillion had
infact been deployed on the Zimbabwe Stock
Exchange, bidding up share prices; with some
going onto the foreign exchange parallel market."

I could probably buy their entire bank with the spare change I keep in my top draw.
What point are you trying to make by quoting them?

That people in power will always blame anyone they can instead of admitting their own failed policies are responsible for economic calamity.

What you smoking? The gold standard is the subordination of the government to the people.

None - apparently Cowen aka Magic Arse sold them all a few years ago to the ECB at a discount. I learned that myself only recently - made me feel sick.
