Public Spending Cuts - Job losses

How many job losses are we likely to see as a result of the 2bn cuts?
How much of the public service is made of people on temporary contracts?
    Surely these jobs will go?

Well in the Summer you will see approx 2000 teachers losing their jobs due to the various cuts and CID teachers not on the full 22 hours being given 22 hours.
Currently many secondary schools have a good number of part timers. These were on an average of 13 hours and would have usually got almost the full 22 hours each week from substitution. Some of these teachers would have been on CIDs (Contracts of indefinite duration)
With substitution hours gone, schools will have to pay CIDs full hours, so will have to use them for 22 hours.
So the number of teachers lost from the scrapping of LCA, increase in pupil teacher ratio etc will be added to by the fact that a number of part time CIDs will have to be increased to the full 22 hours.

The selfish greedy public sector unions will allow the temps to be sacked so their fat cat members get to keep their cushy numbers and conditions. Meanwhile service levels will fall. Much better to keep more working in public sector and service levels the same by reducing everyones salary 20-30%. I'm sure those temp workrs getting sacked would be delighted to keep their jobs and work for 75% of old salary. A safe job is like golddust now.

it will be achieved through wastage and outsourcing - that way the councils won't look like they are getting rid of staff but the numbers will drop.

What about teachers with full time positions going to work in other areas of the public service during their summer breaks? We are paying them anyway so let them be productive in the summer instead of taking long trips abroad or spending most of the time on the golf course. I think they would be needed to shore up the staff in the dole offices during the busy summer period.

Its either a substantial pay cut or start contributing their fair share to the economy like the rest of us in the private sector.

    Oh please.

Teachers contribution to the economy is invaluable, your ability to even interact on this forum not withstanding of course.
