Foreign Media comparing Ireland with Iceland!?

Anyone else getting fed up of foreign media outlets, like the BBC and ITN last night, effectively comparing Ireland to Iceland? I have been vocal here about the serious challenges the economy faces and everyone knows how bad it is but, ffs, Id wish they would stop this Iceland nonsense. The Irish economy is nothing like Iceland's ever was. Unlike Iceland Ireland actually has an economy and does not depend on fish and banking to exist. It's chalk and cheese. Shows how little foreign media, even as close as Britain, actually know about Ireland.

Im not denfending Lenihan the plonker on the beeb but come on....this is not Iceland and never will be. Seems to me this is an intentional slur on Ireland now being used particularly in Britain that is not matched with reality but rather having a laugh at Paddy. And I don't think these silly assertions are painting a good picture of us economically at a time when we have to borrow money - they are false.

I'm getting mightily teed off at that waste of oxygen Mary-Ellen Synon badmouthing Ireland to her imperial overlords in Britain.
It's well seen she lives in Brussels now, since she'd be hard put to show her face anywhere in Ireland following her infamous tirade against paralympics athletes.
And of course, she's not exactly persona grata in her beloved London either, after her 'bonk of England' episode, which resulted in a stained carpet in the Bank of England governor's office having to be chopped up and replaced.
So it should come as no surprise to find her taking the Mail's shilling in return for some trash talking about the Irish economy:

Ours depended on property and only property.

Not only property. Ireland has 2 million people still employed....do they all work in the property sector? - eh no. Do they all work in the banks? - eh no.

So time for some perspective here I think.

A lot of people here included have been caught up in the Irish media bubble, to the exclusion of outside more dispassionate media.
We might not like some of what is written in the UK/US media, but to these commentators we are a 30 second perusal of a report.
There is no goverment spin in their appraisal of the situation.
Just the facts as they see them.
Those facts aren't pretty.
Its only a chat, we ain't the world council.
In 2000 the Women's Institute in Britain gave Tony Blair the slow hand clap to demonstrate their contempt.
It was dignified, restrained and effective.Doesn't Bertie deserve the same scorn. No shouting, no abuse, no agression just a relentless slow clap whenever he speaks in public would be enough to end that man's presidential fantasy.

Our unrealistic growth levels over the last 6 years were based on property.
Banking and financial services have grown signficantly as well.
The UK have plenty of worries themselves but we should not start thinking this economy is not too bad just because we don't like the Brits commenting on it.

Expenditure €55m v Tax intake of €37m
This is a liquidity crisis.
This years deficit is the size of all our pension reserves.

They are not facts, the UK media is talking cr0p.

Newsnight's questions wer dire last night and entirely lifted from tory anti-euro talking points. It was clear they had done zero research for the piece.

Being part of the Euro helped cause this. That is a fact.

Go back to the punt then, you don't wanna?
Please keep your mouth shut then.
Still, even as the investor consensus ravages the euro, it's worth remembering that the same herd instinct not long ago was pronouncing last rites for the dollar. Last year, as China's central bank chief called for a new global currency and Russian central bankers dumped greenbacks to buy euros, many saw the dollar's decline as inevitable. Now, the dollar is riding high, and the euro looks bedraggled.
