Just to be clear..when the Irish scheme was less generous than the UK scheme, Irish banks would top up locally in the UK (Financial Services Compensation Scheme) to ensure that UK depositors with Irish banks would not be at a disadvantage when it came to compensation in the event of a bank collapse. Now that the Irish scheme is more generous, the top up is not necessary. However, the fact that the UK is pointing this out smacks of a form of economic warfare. The UK is clearly trying to frighten people to withdraw their savings with Irish Banks operating in the UK. It seems that the Brits are more than happy for Irish Banks to lend in the UK but not take deposits.
I feel sorry for the FF posters on this site. It must be a draining experience defending the indefensible after a while. And they seem to get fewer and fewer in number.
