Or what would be a significant enough issue for the greens that would enable them to walk with some degree of creditability
If it doesn't come from the "inside", it will come from the angry mob outside Leinster House.

    In your dreams.

In reality, should the Greens spit the dummy - unlikely this side of the Copenhagen Summit in December 2009 - the Labour Party will waltz across the aisle and for Three full Ministries and three half Ministries they will keep Fianna Fail at the helm until 2012.

The ghost of Spring and the waiting masses in the long grass will ensure that doesn't happen. Labour have more to gain by ensuring there is an election in any such eventuality

How do you make that out?

No politician likes going to the polls, and quite a few Labour TDs are vulnerable. Why would they possibly want to take their chances at the polls when they could get around the Cabinet Table (and get the Mercs & Perks) without it?

We can all do the partisan jumping up and down bit, but the senior players in Labour are dyed in the wool politicians. They will do what suits THEM, not what suits the rest of us.

Hence the ongoing informal chats between some senior Labour bods and the people behind Terry Prone's column last week

The greens will be free to split after their election meltdown in June, by this time their minister will have served the 2 years needed to get the full ministerial pension, thats all they are interested in. They will be under serious pressure to pull the plug before then, when like lapdogs they defend the next set of FF cuts in the mini budget in Marchd

You see, there you go again with your dreams and fantasies.

Out here in the real world people see the Greens as a force for change. I had a guy into me today to know the situation with the planned sewage treatment plant for his village. I was able to assure him that John Gormley had made sure there were no cuts to the budget for sewage treatment and water treatment plants.

This guy is old-school Blueshirt Fine Gael, but he'll be voting Green next time out because the Green Ministers are delivering on the issues they said they would - Environment and Energy - whereas the Fine Gael controlled Council are still giving planning permissions around the village even though there is no sewage treatment to cope with it.

Is that the same Green party that wanted to stop the destruction of Tara, wanted to stop Shell stealing our gas and the guys who wanted to stop the waste incinerator in ringsend?

Basically what Cowen is saying is he hasn't the will power or authority to tackle the public service so instead he's going to wait 5 years and allow inflation chip away at the wage bill and the recruitment ban will bring public service numbers back into line.

Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and Labour all wanted "the destruction of Tara". The Greens did everything in their power to stop it. They failed!

So next time out, who will a heritage minded person vote for?

One of the Parties who WANTED to to destroy Tara, or the Party who did everything in their power to PREVENT the destruction of Tara?

Likewise with the Corrib issue. If you don't like the terms of the Contract, take it up with one of the BAU Parties. If you want better terms in the future, elect more Green TDs. That is the only way you will get change!

Ringsend Incinerator, a result of the Regional Waste Management Plan that was approved by Councillors from Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and Labour. I can't see it ever being built because no Bank will fund it.

By the way, have you ever stood for election?

Meanwhile the civil service becomes fatter, greyer and more useless than ever.
