Dell to announce pullout in January, 16k jobs to go: Tribune

According to the Tribune Dell are to announce their pullout in January with all operations going to Poland as Limerick closes down over the year. The Tribune quotes government sources as being braced for the coming announcement. It will lead to the loss of some 16000 jobs between Dell and its sub-suppliers, mainly in the Mid-West region.

It seems Limerick is no longer considered to be "at the heart of Europe"! Will Limerick remember the lies of Nice come next October?

It's a very small silver lining compared to the size of the cloud. 16,000 jobs...we may finally see an Irish equivalent of the Jarrow March.

I would have thought that story would be front page in the Tribune...and not consigned to the Business section alone...

And surely there are less painful ways of getting rid of Willie?

That bugged me as well. If this story is not front page material I do not know what is. I suppose its the Tribs priorities all over, 16000 jobs to go is nothing as newsworthy as some asylum scammer complaining about the food in a Galway hotel which they ran with a couple of years ago when the claims made turned out subsequently to be completely bogus.
