Fine Gael News - Ray of light for Beamish & Crawford - but only if Govt acts - Allen
"Fine Gael Cork North Central TD Bernard Allen is today raising the closure of the Beamish & Crawford brewery in the Dáil, and has challenged the Government to state whether it has done anything to facilitate a mooted rescue package.
Speaking on the Adjournment Debate in the Dáil tonight, Deputy Allen said: 'Heineken's decision to close down its former competitor in Cork, the Beamish & Crawford Brewery, makes the Competition Authority look very incompetent for approving the takeover. However, there is a ray of light for the brewery, which is closing down with the loss of between 100 and 200 jobs'.
"Various media outlets have reported that SAB/Miller, a former partner of Beamish & Crawford, may be interested in buying the brewery from Heineken and continuing production of its brands from the site. "
So - if this was / could have been on the cards why didnt the gov, competition authority quango, Ms. Coughlan even have some idea it was on the cards? Is this another quick draw decision without further research and time?
Cheers
Aidan
