    Does Ireland need Europe?

The European Commission in Ireland is tonight hosting a public meeting in Galway City. The meeting which is titled "IN THESE TIMES OF ECONOMIC TURMOIL, DOES IRELAND REALLY NEED EUROPE?" takes place in the Meyrick Hotel on Eyre Square at 7pm.

Confirmed to take part in meeting are:

Paul Shelly, President, Galway Chamber of Commerce
    Dr Terrence McDonough, NUIG
    Barry Donnelly, Irish Farmers Association
    Carmel Garrett, ICA

As with most of the European Commission events, Pat Leahy (Political Editor of the Sunday Business Post) will chair the event.

Some quotes from the participants tonight are below the fold.

Pat Leahy chaired a Commission event in Cork yesterday and was superb

    Europe Yes. Lisbon No.

BTW, are any EU institutions paying for this event? And why is there no representation on the panel from the no side, who after all won the referendum?

What we need is the continued market access guaranteed by EU membership. But we have that anyway whether Lisbon passes or falls.

Would have thought the question answers itself really. A role reversal might be more enlightening.

Maybe, just maybe because its not about the referendum or Lisbon. Not everything is you know - even though it sometimes feels like it on p.ie.

Interesting, I think the answer to that would also be yes. But lets not get into that on this thread.
