Reading the news this morning I could not help but be a little pi88ed off at the countercyclical way oil companies make profits.
The cost of oil has crippled many businesses in the past year. In an ideal world, the high cost we have seen should have been borne equally within the industry vertical, i.e., from the consumer to the source, the cost would be increased rationally such that the redistribution of the higher cost was equitable.
The two links below show that this is not the case. It is also a further exasperation to see the consumer being taxed by our Govt. when the oil companies have clearly taken a disproportionate margin, i.e., have exploited their customer base during a time of high stress for that base. Why therefore, should the tax payer put up with this increase in oil tax when the disproportionate profits of oil companies go relatively untouched? Arguably this should be a bigger issue than the OAP medical card one as it affects more people and puts broader pressure on the economy.

I realise this will give the communists and socialists a stage to further bash the avaricious nature of capitalism and I am not interested in that - I know it so it would be a boring and predictable response. I am not a communist, would not say I am a socialist, though I do accept some level of intervention.
