I was reading a discussion between some economists today who suggested that we would have to follow the recent German experience and freeze wages for ten years if we are to have any chance of getting out of this position.
Ah, but did they suggest freezing inflation too?
We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when creating them
I think with the 0.5pc increase in VAT, which will be rounded up to 1pc of course and the increase in fuel and cigarette taxes etc. we will be lucky to get nil next year.
