The taxpayer will be paying for the golden parachutes of the execs at those failed companies and the economic power structure in America is the exact same as it was a month ago, and will be a year from now.

So no, nowhere even remotely close, more state companies doesn't make you a socialist state

The US government just needs to buy up an automobile company, a few farms and maybe a baseball team or two and its game over for free markets.

I pointed out in another thread that the 10 planks of the Communist Manifesto have already been implemeted there, as well as all of the planks of the 1928 Socialist Party, however that does not make them a socialist state. It makes them a statist state.

Re: Is the United States a Socialist Republic?

You know whats fun? Google "planks of the communist manifesto"

SHOCKINGLY, you don't get a load of academic sites discussing the "planks" what you do get is....

    www.criminalgovernment.com/docs/planks.html

    www.libertyzone.com/Communist-Manifesto-Planks.html

    www.ronpaulforpresident2008.com/blog/node/101

I think most Americans would be shocked to learn theres anyone out there that thinks:

    Private property has been abolished
    Inheritance has been abolished
Communications and transport are controlled by the state.
Labor has a lot of rights... (ehem Taft Hartley act anyone?)
and VERY shocked to find education is free.....

Some of these sites also COMPLAIN about the civil rights act, and talk about the equal right ammendment as if it had passed...

So I guess you can think anything if you want to , even if all the evidence is right in the opposate direction.
Theres still people out there who think 911 was an inside job and the holocost never happened.

Re: Is the United States a Socialist Republic?

I'm sure other Americans will be shocked to discover that in the USA they have:

A heavy progressive or graduated incometax
Centralization of credit in the hands of the State
Centralization of the means of communications and transportation in the hands of the State
Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the State
Free education for all children in public schools

Like it or not, Statism is on the rise in the States, if you go by this "evidence":

Its not a socialist state , even if all industry was nationalised it still wouldn't be socialist . We do fight for nationalisation but who owns the industry in America ? is it the workers ? hell no . Its a capitalist state . we want nationalistion and the power placed in the hands of the workers not the bureaucratic capitalist state
Freedom in capitalist society always remains about the same as it was in ancient Greek republics: Freedom for slave owners. For a Real Alternative :

A heavy progressive or graduated incometax
Almost every developed country on earth has a progressive income tax, thats not shocking at all.
But if you wanna be pedantic, several US states dont have income taxes at all.

Centralization of credit in the hands of the State
The state does not control all credit in the US

Centralization of the means of communications and transportation in the hands of the State
They DEFINITELY don't control all communications and transport.

Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the State
I can't think of a single state owned factory in the US...

Free education for all children in public schools
That IS what makes a school public.....
and why would free education be shocking? in fact I'd say its rather a good thing that people are not crippled with costs of such a basic thing.

I don't doubt the STATE is getting more powerful, (This power increace AGGRESSIVLY supported by the right) but it's probably one of the LEAST socialist countries on the planet

Re: Is the United States a Socialist Republic?

The nationalisation of the debts of the financial houses is about as socialist policy that you can get.The generosity of the ordinary taxpayer to bail out the reckless behaviour of the financial sector has to be admired but if this sector do not realise that they are in a whole new ball game then hopefully they are in for a big surprise.
