If you're not materialistic then why the fuss about spending a lot of money on rent?
Perhaps that seemed clever in your head

high rents reduce my expenditure for items that are almost essential in todays society. It's not like I want to buy a yacht, I merely want to be able to maintain the running of my car and maybe occasionally pay into a football match.
Many of todays "essentials" are materialistic items that people didn't use before and we have no need to use. One can live ably on the minimum wage without such items. I know people who can. I couldnt of course as I am apparently a slave to materialism but I know a couple of people who are not materialistic at all and can survive with a hell of a lot less money than I could. So don't use the "become a slave to materialism" crap, because if you weren't materialistic, you'd have no problem.
Well I'm not going to go out and live in the woods FFS!

Under capitalism people will always need money to purchase consumer goods. However there are people who cling so hard to their possessions they forget their humanity and collective responsibility.

Indeed, but we obviously differ on the extent of this madness and the proper way of dealing with it.
Ireland interests are best secured within a more dynamic EU. Vote YES to Lisbon.

Guys dnt forget -Rent went up madly cos the number of Foreigners came to Ireland from eastern europe and asia in 2004. so were shoratge of accomodation.
I remember in 2005 when i was looking for renting in dublin, I always saw 20 ppls long queue outside, any apartment i went to see!!! and was a nightmare to get one place to live in...

but now things changed- recession, job losses... the eastern europian r goin some where else for work. new comers are dropping and also govt put tight cap on immigration from Non- Eu countries.
also many Irish are goin elsewhere.

now we can see the signs on daft--- "price dropped"!!!!
I saw many places on daft are there empty for months, even in dublin city centre!!
    rent must be dropped further!!!

1 Bed apartments are for couples without children.
E500 each per month is perfectly affordable on E2423 per month take home (AIW).
It represents 21% of take home pay spent on housing, that's quite cheap really.

Better still if the workers take the land and building off the parasites and pay no rent at all.
