What is the government's plan for economic recovery?

Apologies if there is already a thread on this...

Another thread outlines FG's plan for recovery. It is great that they have one and it is a pity that it isn't getting more press attention.

Much more important than that though, what is the governments plan?

The lead story in today's Irish Times is about the unemployment figures. FG's enterprise spokesperson points out that we are beyond the stage where these numbers are a wake up call for the government. Yet we still have not seen any resolve, or any plan from the government or the government parties. All we have seen are plans to reduce the state spending and the Minister for Finance's poor me act. Does anyone else think that the government's response to the downturn should amount to more than that? If you believe FF, this is the government that brought us the biggest boom in the history of the state, let us see some of that economic genius.

I have not a clue what the Government is planning to do. I wonder how difficult it would be to bug FF offices?
On the up side Starbucks are doing their part to fight recession. They are offering free refills of filter coffee. All we have to do now is learn to consume nothing but Starbucks coffee and we will be saved. We once ate nothing but potatoes so we should be able to live on coffee alone, it may even raise our productivity.
Now if only the first cup of coffee was not over priced.
It is funny that Starbucks have doing this special offer in America for some time but only brought it in here when the times got bad.

You should remember that in times of economic crisis, real wealth is not destroyed, but transfered from the middle classes to the already super rich. To effect a "recovery" at this point would be to stop this process. Do you really believe that Fianna Fail have any intention of doing that?

Tax directly and indirectly the livin ************************e out of the working middle classes .There stuck with the house mortgage can't move easy target to soak the few euro's off.
A champion of the people emerges with the age-old and appealing promise of "something for nothing" - to be financed through every-increasing taxes. Supply and demand are thrown out of gear - the overhead goes up; the effective use of human energy goes down; the standard of living is lowered because money cannot buy wealth that is not produced.

I think you have never studied economics and don't know how wealth is created.
