Even worse, it is an 'interim' decision, with a further price hike on the cards from January according to the CER.

    Savage.

I'm going to have to seriously consider the how, where, why and when of all electricity use. My annual electricity bill was about €700.00 last year. Now its going to be about €1000.00.
No heating in that. Gas is roughly the same.

    bloody savage.

Gas in terms of unit cost is considerably cheaper than Electricity. Electricity is one of the most expensive forms of heating.

Of course this will hit people on lowest incomes hardest. I predict an even bigger increase in requests for Social Welfare / MABS / VdeP asistance with utility bills in the coming year...

It’s an absolute disgrace, there is no need for the ESB to turn a profit. It should absorb the cost of the Oil prices as much as it possibility can before going raising its prices. Of course the Government don’t give them any choice in the matter.

Its the ESB being forced to gear up for competiton that is partly to blame for this rise. Its the same with the VHI, with Eircom etc etc.

Competiton between private companies in England has resulted in a 30% increase in Electricity prices. Go figure.
