The Irish Times's Cantillon, like certain Brazilian players goes one name only (cf. Neymar, Paulinho) so it's clearly a mark of genius in one's field. Anyway, he/she recycles the above quote as a question with respect to the Irish economy: Have we ever had it so good?

The answer would appear to be a resounding 'no' and the arguments, dear reader, are compelling.
I seem to remember having done his thread not too long ago.

    Hysterical.

Thats why Council Housing was introduced, because it was f*ucking hard enough for middle class men on professional salaries to get a mortgage.

Perhaps it was easier for hunter-gatherers. Wildlife and berries being free, etc.

F*ucking nonsense from the Celtic Tiger bubble. I grew up as a middle class child in the seventies and I got two new pairs of shoes a year.

Even at the lower end of estimates, a previous thread estimated such an individual would be on a minimum of 70,000 per annum.

Can you show me a commie country where someone who can get that level of state-support without working ?

Rent allowance in Dublin for a single parent & kid now runs at 1,875 per month.
(I have also come across 2,100 per month).
A higher rate taxpayer would have to earn about 45,000 just to compete on rent.

Furthermore, it's stated government policy to remove people from the tax net.
And all you can do is complain when they succeed.

Go live in the glorious republic of cuba, if you dare !

And I'm not even a FG voter.
If government policy was to end hospital waiting lists, and they did it by killing people, would you expect people to complain when they succeeded in lowering the waiting lists?

Way to deliberately miss the poster's point. The point is that earn so little they don't even pay income tax. Have they ever had it so good?
